1. In The News

A white German Shepherd won the inaugural title of Britain’s Most Talented Pet. Four year old Hope showed amazing prowess with his ability to mow the lawn and even play the piano.

2. GSD Hero of the Month

Frodo, a German Shepherd at the Saint Joseph County Humane Society, broke out of his cage and interrupted burglars looting the shelter.

"If someone is looking for a dog for a house that would be a protector, that would be Frodo," said Dr. Carol Ecker, director of St. Joseph County’s Humane Office. "Something set this dog off because he broke out of his cage, and chased them. Probably saving us from getting more things stolen."

Way to go Frodo!

3. Training

While I've had some success with the Gentle Leader, my GSD still pulled a bit too much for my liking. Especially when a cat or squirrel came into view! After losing control of her the second time, I decided to hire a local trainer.

She uses an eCollar which I was definitely not sure about. But, after watching a demonstration with her Malinois and seeing her gain control of my dog within a few minutes, I was sold.

The collar was definitely not cheap, but it is very high quality (and even waterproof). After a couple of lessons, I feel like I have a different dog. She still has a way to go, but I can now enjoy walking her without getting a dislocated shoulder.

Look for the full story on the site soon.

4. Health Issue

Even though the breeder showed me OFA certification papers for both parents, there have been some disturbing early signs of hip dysplasia in my 1 year old shepherd.

She occasionally runs like a rabbit (back legs together) and appears to have trouble getting up. I've seen some improvement with the use of joint supplements but I've been searching for another natural solution.

I may have found it. But, I want to make sure it is really working before recommending it.

As a subscriber, you will be the first to know.
