Speak Out for Those With No Voice

Every time I search the news for information about German Shepherds, I find myself with my hand against my eyes, peeking thru my fingers, to try to find the nice stories hidden amid the awful ones.

I really try not to click on the heartbreaking headlines, since I've realized that what we focus on expands.

But, I think we must also speak out against inexcusable behavior, such as the neighbors did here: Ten Years on a Chain: Rescued Dog's Happy Ending.

Why it took 10 years, I'll never know. And may God have mercy on the poor excuses for humans that tormented this beautiful German Shepherd.

If you witness a dog being treated in an inhumane fashion, please alert the authorities. Quickly! And repeatedly if they do not take action.

Luckily, she was able to enjoy the final 18 months of her life with a loving family. But, she should not have had to endure 10 years of abuse to get there.

That is simply unacceptable.

Trick or Treat?!

I played a trick on my dog the other day. While she was inside, I placed a stuffed squirrel toyout in the yard.

I opened the door, pointed at the "squirrel" and told her to go get it! She charged at it and actually passed it. She then turned around to look back, wondering why it didn't run. And looked at me for an explanation.

GSD's are smart, so you can't really pull this off but once. I don't plan to do it again, I just wanted to see what she would do.

I just hope she doesn't actually catch a real squirrel in the future and try to "squeak it."
