German Shepherds - Hard Working Dogs

The Working Dog

A tribute to working dogs:

My eyes are your eyes,
to watch and protect you and yours

My ears are your ears,
to hear and detect evil minds in the dark

My nose is your nose,
to scent the invader of your domain

And so you may live,
my life is also yours.

~Unknown

German Shepherds Need a Job

The founder of the German Shepherd breed, Captain Max von Stephanitz, valued intelligence, temperament and utility. This breed was bred for a purpose...

To work.

Take this trouble for me:
Make sure my shepherd dog remains a working dog,
for I have struggled all my life long for that aim

~Captain Max von Stephanitz 1866-1936

Utility and Intelligence

German Shepherd Working Dogs
This was the Captain's motto. German Shepherds are very easily bored and crave activity. If you are looking for a lap dog, this is not the breed for you.

Work with Mother Nature to nurture these hardworking traits.

A highly intelligent dog with an aptitude for learning, German Shepherds excel at the following roles:

All-Purpose Dog

A versatile breed, the GSD is considered a dog for all seasons. Some breeds may be able to perform a certain task better. But none of them can do such a wide variety of jobs as well the German Shepherd.

The German Shepherd line is made up of dogs that were chosen for their strong mental and physical ability. Working line German Shepherds especially epitomize these ideals.

According to the author of "The Intelligence of Dogs," author Stanley Coren ranks the German Shepherd as the third most intelligent dog breed. In case you want to know, Border Collie was #1, and Poodle #2.

Give your working GSD a task in life. This is what the German Shepherd was created for. Help her fulfill her destiny.

At the very least, make sure your shepherd has lots of mental and physical stimulation. Your dog will thank you.

And your furniture will last longer.
