Dutch Shepherd GSD mix
by: ed

I own a Dutch Shepherd German Shepherd mix. His name is Drako, he is almost a year old and he weights about 75-80 lbs. He is a monster for how old he is.

He is also the smartest dog I have ever owned. He has been extremely easy to train, house training him only took a few days.

He also has really low drive for both of the breeds mixed in him. That makes him a really good companion, but he still has that great protective instinct that makes him the best guard dog.

I can talk for hours and hours about Drako...

Brindle GSD
by: Kimberly

I was stunned to find your picture of a brindle GSD... if he really is purebred he is VERY rare. Brindle was a colour in the "old days" but has become extinct. From the pictures he certainly looks purebred from working lines, but a dog DNA test would help rule out any crossbreeding.

Illustrated Standard of the German Shepherd Dog

At the bottom of this page there is a little bit about the brindle black and tan colour.

if you post more pictures of him, side view, head shots, him in mid-stride trotting... I am around working lines all the time and own/breed them as well so I have a pretty good eye for what they look like.

How exciting, a brindle!! He really is a beautiful dog.

Ryder is a beast!
by: Sarah

Just went for a check up and he is now 67 pounds at 8 months. His weight is caught up but I dont know about his height and length they seem a little off when compared to another shepherd, he is just a little shorter and not as long. Its weird. But he's doing great and even got a new sister!

German Shepherd Mix
by: Jennifer

What a handsome boy! Wow, you got him young. Glad to hear he is almost worm free. Looks like he is progressing pretty good so far. Once he is completely dewormed, it should be much easier for him to put on some weight.

It's hard to say with any accuracy without knowing what other breed(s) he may be mixed with. If you want to know for sure, you can always have his dog DNA analyzed. It's a painless procedure that uses cells collected from a cheek swab - no blood is needed and you can do it yourself.

Keep in mind, that the numbers on this growth chart reflect the international standards. From what I've discovered, the European lines tend to place a higher emphasis on working ability, versus appearance like in the US. This is why the numbers in this chart may appear to be heavy for American or show line German Shepherds.

Let us know how Ryder is progressing and if you happen to find out what kind of mix he is.
