Smokey Claimed Me as "His Girl" and Protected Me from Day One

When I was about 7, my family adopted a homeless German Shepherd, Smokey, who was found living in an abandoned car in a quarry, living on dead guinea pigs that were thrown there from a farm that raised them.

My parents felt leery about adopting a dog that may be part feral, or even part wolf. They allowed him to sleep on my bed his first night at our house, and they checked on him -- and me -- during the night.

Instead of finding me attacked or scared, they were greeted with a growling Smokey! He had chosen me as "his girl", and he was protecting ME when my parents came to my bedroom!

My love for Smokey stayed with me all my life, and I now cherish my two German Shepherds who currently sleep on my bed every night!
