Why does my dog throw up on the carpet?

Whenever my dog has to vomit, she always runs to the rug. If she has an episode, she will leave the hardwood or tile floor and head for a carpeted area.

Why is that?

Instinct

Dogs have an instinct that tells them to cover their tracks. If your dog is outside when she has to vomit, she will likely choose a grassy area as it is seen as more absorbent. This is also why she will choose carpet over a smooth surface.

She is not trying to make your life more difficult, she is simply following her innate instructions.
